Roger Murrow's Foundry French Figures

 |
Guest contributor Roger Murrow was quite taken with our website,
but noticed that we featured very few Foundry figures. So he sent
us this article about his first year of collecting and painting
a Napoleonic French army with Foundry figures - and they certainly
look nice! Over to Roger to continue his story.....

The whole army started off as an accident really. I've played reasonable
level rugby for 20+ years but my career is coming to an end and I wanted
a hobby. When I was a kid I played with and painted Airfix soldiers
and thought that would be fun as I loved the French Napoleonic army. I
surfed the net and discovered a whole new world. I realised this could
be the start of something big .. I had no idea how big!
So I have set out to build a French Napoleonic army in 28mm scale with
figures from the Foundry. Why the Foundry? Two reasons:
one as I think they are magnificent sculpts, and the second was that I
acquired, second hand, a job lot of hundreds of the damned things! And
I means literally hundreds! I was very lucky!
The aim is to build the following: two infantry divisions each comprising
of two brigades each of four 36-figure regiments. There will be artillery
and command as well. I also have acquired cavalry for a heavy division
of cuirassiers, dragoons and carabineers. Light of hussars, lancers and
chasseurs a cheval. And of course horse artillery!
And then we have the Imperial Guard. Two regiments of grenadiers and
one young and one middle guard. Horse will be the Empress Dragoons, chasseurs,
lancers and grenadiers ...

Besides the annoying bits most of this has been assembled via eBay or
second hand although I have taken advantage of the recent Foundry
sale to fill in gaps. I only started in January and add a regiment about
every six weeks so its a long term project!
All figures are painted in Foundry acrylics to the Foundry
/ Dallimore system.
