14 May 2007 - some of the Fusiliers feature in an article on wargaming in today's "Dominion Post" (Wellington's daily newspaper). Click here to see the full article. While the guys were a little surprised how some of their offhand comments were picked up on by the reporter, overall it is a pretty positive piece on the hobby. 13 May 2007 - added a link for Von Peter's Wargaming Madness. For some of the prettiest pictures around, accompanied by witty captions and text, make sure you visit this site belonging to Fusilier Peter Haldezos. His photography is superb, and the figures in his armies are beautifully painted and based. A 'must visit' site! 15 April 2007 - the Kapiti Fusiliers were mentioned in an article in the Kapiti Observer newspaper last week. The story was about the New Zealand National Convention held in Upper Hutt last weekend. Although he did not take part in this convention, Fusilier Roly hermans was interviewed by the paper. Unfortunately, Fusilier Murray Nash and his team, who did actually take part in the convention, putting on an impressive 40mm American Civil War game, were not mentioned in the story. Read the full article here. 11 February 2007 - Fusilier Wayne Stack has written a research paper on the reputation of Banastre Tarleton. Firstly, Fusilier Peter Haldezos has received the new 28mm Calpe Prussian command sets. So he has photographed every figure in each set for his website, Von Peter's Wargaming Madness. These are the most magnificently animated and posed command sets I have ever seen. And the rest of the photos on Peter's new website are well worth checking out, too.

The Kapiti Fusiliers are pleased to support this event by designing this publicity webpage for them.
1 June 2005 - the latest additions to Fusilier Roly's Napoleonic British army are these Chiltern Miniatures figures of Richard Sharpe and Patrick Harper, based on the well-known series of novels by Bernard Cornwell, later televised with Sean Bean in the title role.
Note the multi-barrelled Nock gun that Sergeant Harper is carrying - these were actually designed for use in the fighting tops of ships. You'll also note the huge sword that Sharpe is holding - these guys definitely have a more "heroic fantasy" style than what we're used to in historical figures. With these two characters, Roly reckons his army should be unbeatable!
Roly is thinking about adding the rest of the Chosen Men to his army in due course, inspired by the work done by another modeler in this outside website.
17 April 2005 - today Fusilier Greg hosted an enormous Napoleonic Austerlitz game, featuring over 1,000 exquiste 28mm figures on a 12' table. Fusilier Paul was busy with his camera taking loads of great shots. So watch out over the next week for our forthcoming illustrated game report ....
31 January 2005 - Fusilier Paul Crouch's gallery has been updated with some of his newly re-based American Civil War units. 17 January 2005 - a big update this time round. Not one, not two, but three articles presented for your edification and enjoyment!!! Firstly an illustrated battle report of a recent American Civil War game, loosely based on the Battle of Farmville Road that took place two days before the end of the war. Next, our first ancients article - a report of a Viking battle played by one of our Australian "virtual" members. Finally, there is the long-awaited article about Fusilier Paul Crouch's famous technique for using basecloths. Plenty to keep everyone happy!
29 November 2004 - the Imperial and Royal Austrian Army makes its appearance on the Kapiti Fusiliers website. Check out the pictures in Fusilier Peter Haldezos" Napoleonic Austrian gallery. 14 November 2004 - a new gallery of photos of Fusilier Roly Hermans' Napoleonic Spanish has been commenced. There is also a new photo of his Royal Horse Artillery in Roly's British Napoleonics gallery.
As a result of moving to our new website host, we have now solved the problem of not being able to add any more pages, as was the case under our old web host. So you can expect to see many more of our famous galleries and articles in the future! Don't forget to remove any references to our old paradise.net address, and to change your Favorites or Bookmarks to: www.fusiliers.net 28 September 2004 - despite the news of 26 September, we have managed to sqeeze another webpage onto our site. This is the page of photos of the recent Saratoga - Freeman's Farm game played by Fusiliers Paul Crouch, Steve Sands and Roly Hermans, that we first mentioned here on 19 September. The layout of this page is different from the other pages on this site because we designed it as a stand-alone article. Enjoy! 26 September 2004 -The Kapiti Fusiliers and ancillery websites have reached their 10MB limit, which was provided as a free part of Fusilier Paul Crouch's standard ISP connection with Paradise.net. This means that we can't add anything more to this site for the time being. There are two ways to deal with this: cull some of the articles, and especially pictures, to free up some space again for new stuff. Or we can find some new space elsewhere to add to what we have already got. I'm personally not in favour of culling old articles and pictures. I think they make up the historic picture of our club, and there are still plenty of new visitors out there in cyber-space who haven't seen them yet. So I would prefer the option of finding more space. I know one or two of the Fusiliers who also have Paradise.net connections have offered their free space. But the only trouble with this is that if any of us change our ISPs in the future, a whole portion of the site will suddenly fall over, and it will be a terribly confusing mess to get everything up and running again. So I would prefer if we could find somewhere that will allow us to host our site completely, but with enough storage space to cope with our very graphics-intensive style. I know there are quite a few free providers of web-hosting out there, but they have ads, pop-ups and monthly bandwidth limits, so won't suit our purposes. What we need is a generous business or such-like who has a bit of space to spare that we could use. Of course, the other alternative is that we actually PAY for some space - Paradise.net, for instance, have paid space that would suit our needs totally. However, as our club doesn't have subscriptions or any other form of funding, who would pay for it? So, any suggestions gratefully accepted! 19 September 2004 - Today Kapiti Fusiliers Paul Crouch, Steve Sands and Roly Hermans played an afternoon game at Paul's house. We refought the Battle of Freeman's Farm, using the "British Grenadier" rules (the first time any of us had used these rules). As usual when playing at Paul's, the terrain was spectacular, with a rolling landscape dotted with hundreds of beautiful big tress. On one corner stood an impressive redoubt, whilst in the centre was a typical American farmhouse and barn. The troops, of course, were equally as eye-catching - every single one of them an exquisitely painted individual. Lots of beautiful British, American Continentals and militia, and even some Hessians towards the end of the battle. And Paul and Jo's hospitality adds to the game atmosphere, with beer, wine, coffee and hors-d'ouevres keeping the inner man satisfied throughout the afternoon and on into the early evening. Even Paul's baby sun ... er, son ... joined in the fun! We plan to do a whole page of photos of this battle, with a full commentary, in the next few days (webspace permitting!). This should be along the lines of the Kapiti Fusiliers' famous Battle of Guilford Courthouse refight a few years ago. 13 September 2004 - Fusilier Greg Simmonds has a spectacular Napoleonic Russian army - see Sean Smith's beautiful photos of these exquisite figures on our new gallery page. 26 August 2004 - the Kapiti Fusiliers win best Demo Game Award at 'Call To Arms' in Wellington! We put on several games over the weekend, but it was this Napoleonic French vs British game that won the award. See the photos below .... 30 July 2004 - the Kapiti Fusiliers have made it to the the big time! The latest edition of Piquet's Les Grognards rules features photos by Fusiliers Peter Haldezos and Roly Hermans on the front cover. And we are told there are more inside, though until we receive our copies of the rules, we don't know which ones and how many. But just getting on the cover alone is a real coup for the Kapiti Fusiliers! 18 June 2004 - We've added a new gallery of 25mm Eureka figures depicting Maoris and New Zealand Armed Constabulary of the New Zealand Wars in the 1860s and 70s. 12 June 2004 - the article about Capitulation figures has been changed into a review. 31 May 2004 - the new Capitulation range of 28mm Fontenoy à Culloden figures has been released! See the first painted example, plus photos of the actual blister contents, in this rewritten article. 22 May 2004 - a few photos of French, Nassau and British Napoleonics added to Roly Hermans' gallery. 24 April 2004 - welcome to all our visitors from The Miniatures Page, where a link to our site features on the front page today. Please take a look round our site ... we hope you'll find something of interest. And let us know if you want to make any comments.
30 March 2004 - a photo of more of Fusilier Mark Strachan's Maori figures has been added to this article. 14 February 2004 - Fusilier Mark Strachan is producing a new range of 28mm New Zealand Wars figures in parallel with his forthcoming American Civil War collection. See the first pictures in this article. Also, Fusilier Paul Crouch has launched a new Last of the Mohicans webpage featuring photos of his French and Indian Wars display/participation game. 8 February 2004 - the Scots Greys join Roly Hermans' gallery. At the top of the same page, you'll also see pictures of the flags of his various infantry battalions. 6 January 2004 - Fusilier Eric Veitl's OOB for the Battle of Rocroi added to the articles section. 4 January 2004 - a new American Civil War gallery has been added. 1 January 2004 - some new English Civil War and French & Indian Wars photos in Paul Crouch's gallery , as well as more British Napoleonics in Roly Hermans' gallery. 15 December 2003 - Nearly as exciting as today's news of the capture of Sadaam Hussein are newly released photos of master figures for two new ranges of 28mm figures. Visit the articles about Mark Strachan Figures (American Civil War) and Capitulation Figures (War of the Austrian Succession) and check out the new photos. 6 December 2003 - The website of one of our favourite manufacturers is soon to go live. Front Rank Figurines will show photos of every one of their figures, some beautifully painted and some in undercoat to show off their amazing detail. 29 November 2003 - Here is an article showing a simple method of making your bases look good with a minimum of effort. And don't forget to check out the special Christmas picture on our home page! 23 November 2003 - the English Civil War photos in Paul Crouch's gallery have been updated with his new Blue Regiment London Trained Bands. There is also a new article about the history of the Fusiliers. 8 November 2003 - British heavy cavalry added to Roly Hermans' gallery. 26 October 2003 - the English Civil War photos in Paul Crouch's gallery have been updated, and some photos of one of his American Civil War units also added. 24 October 2003 - Mark Strachan is a well-known wargamer and modeller from New Zealand. Since January, he has been working on a new range of 25mm figures. His aim is to cover the periods he enjoys ... read more 4 October 2003 - Last night's club meeting was rather ... er ... interesting. A huge downpour of rain caused major slips and flooding on State Highway 1 that cut Paraparaumu off from Wellington - this blockage occurred after Fusilier Brian had got through, but before Fusilier Ray got to the same point. So Brian got to the meeting, but I gather had to stay the night (as I write this, the road still remains closed), whilst Ray and colleague turned back home and eventually got there by a torturous route. Adding to the drama of the night, a plane crash occurred very close to the meeting during the course of the evening. I recall turning to (I think) Fusilier Paul at about 9.30 and saying, "Now we've got thunder too", but in hind-sight ... er ... hind-hearing .... that was the sound of the plane (a cargo Convair) crashing in the sea only a few kilometres away. Unfortunately, they're searching for the two crew right now, but I don't think it is likely they've survived - wreckage, mail and cargo is being washed up along the Kapiti beaches. Despite all the setbacks, we still had about ten people present at the meeting, and played a Napoleonic Piquet game and a Warhammer ECW game. The games and scenery were somewhat less than usual, as many Fusiliers, wisely, elected not to transport so many boxes of miniatures or scenery to the meeting in that teeming rain. On another topic, Fusilier Mike's gallery has been totally updated. 3 October 2003 - We have added a very informative article by Fusilier Mike MacGillivray about photographing miniatures. 1 October 2003 - Fusilier Paul Crouch has painted up an English Civil War unit - see his new gallery (which also contains a photo of a lovely new Hudson and Allen resin building he received today). We have also reorganised our site. The main changes are that the former Wargaming page has been merged with the Articles page, and we now have a new About Us section. Next club meeting is this Friday (3 October) at Steve Sands' place as usual. 10 September 2003 - Model soldiers don't only come in fully-rounded form. Fusilier Roly Hermans shows us some German flat figures that he painted many years ago.... read more. Also, the next club meeting is this Friday evening (12 September) at our Paraparaumu "club rooms" - planned games include Flames of War WW2 and Piquet Napoleonic. One final bit of news - we are pleased to announce that the Fusiliers took away the Best Demo Game prize at Call To Arms in Wellington last week. Well done, all those Fusiliers who took part. A photo report will follow in due course. 8 September 2003 - Recently two of the Kapiti Fusiliers had a truly international game. During a trip to Europe, Fusilier Greg Simmonds (New Zealand) called on Fusilier Eric Veitl (France). They played a Seven Years War game on Eric's outdoor table (the things you can do in the South of France!), using his lovely Russian and Prussian figures. They are keeping the result a closely guarded secret because some wine and beer came into play before the conclusion! Eric can't wait for the next globe-trotting Fusilier to visit his part of the world, and plans to have more scenery items and a larger table for next time. Click on the pictures for larger images. 9 July 2003 - The Fusiliers' website finally gets underway, after being talked about on and off for a number of years. The Fusiliers originally started as an online YahooGroup (called the Friday Night Fusiliers). Earlier this year, however, the club became 'bricks and mortar' with our first actual games night, and so the Kapiti Fusliers Historic Gaming Club was born. Please enjoy browsing through the site, which is just in its infant stages at the moment. We hope to add many more articles and wargaming features in coming months. Whether you are a Fusilier or not, please feel free to contribute articles to this site. You can do so by contacting the webmaster, Fusilier Roly Hermans.
